Prisoners Disembarking Submarine 1940s
1945
About this memory
"These men were likely to have been picked up at sea, survivors probably from U-boat, guards surrounding them. My father had a navy-issue pistol but kept it locked away at all times in what he called his ditty box.
"Everything was hush-hush during the war, not even the wife was to know what ship or whereabouts of anyone. Only after demob did he or brother talk of things, but some things were sworn to secrecy forever." - Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)
Photograph from collection of Ernest Mobbs who served in both World Wars.
