About this memory

A keen musician he came in as a bass player at a very early stage, probably our second Gig. He was with the Band through its most popular years until the Band line up changed in 1967.

John studied at Heriot – Watt University in Edinburgh and graduated in 1969 with a First Class Honours Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

Later that year he moved to Great Malvern in Worcestershire to work in Scientific Research for the Ministry of Defence. His research made a significant contribution to Airborne Radar Systems particularly in the 1980’s. He worked there for the rest of his life, becoming a Principal Scientific Officer and was a very dedicated Research Scientist.

After leaving the Band his interest in music continued, enjoying the music of Bands like Cream, Deep Purple, Santana, Led Zepplin and Fleetwood Mac in the 1970’s.

He also became very interested in classical music attending many classical concerts in Malvern. He loved to play acoustic guitar classical pieces and in the 1980’s he joined two friends to play in a classical trio of guitar, piano and clarinet. He was learning to play the clarinet with some success.

Later in the 1980’s he joined a Bluegrass Band, Salty Dog and played in many Pubs and Venues in Worcestershire.

Sadly John passed away in March 1999 aged 51 years.
