Our Parents were going on holiday to Poland when the Russians were about to invade Czechoslovakia so as the Russians were marching through Poland to get there, they changed their plans and decided to go on a touring holiday to Spain.
Our Father travelled from Southampton to Bilbao in Spain on the Car Ferry. He stopped in Leirda and crossed the road to book into a Hotel when a Motorbike came from nowhere and knocked him down. He lived for 24 hours.
It was Ben who travelled over to Lerida to help his Mother with all the arrangements. Ben was 21, and I was 18. Our father was 42.
Our Father died on 3rd October 1968 and is buried in Mount Vernon Cemetery.
The Morris 1100 car was brought back to Edinburgh by the AA it was strapped to the upper deck of the Ship and was completely white from the salt.
At the time of our Fathers death he had Three Shops -116 West Port, 13a Brougham Street, and Lauriston Place.
