About this memory
2011 – By this time word had spread that the original members of THE HIPPLE PEOPLE were once again doing live shows.
We were approached by Jimmy Swan, Convenor of the Shrubhill Masonic Club, Leith Walk. Jimmy had been a fan of the band in the Sixties and was interested to know if we would do a show at Shrubhill.
Capacity at Shrubhill was around 250 so we were concerned as to our ability to attract an audience of that size after a gap on more than 40 years.
The Shrubhill Club was a popular venue well known locally for live music shows, tribute acts as well as its traditional role as a Masonic Lodge.
Jimmy assured us that their would be no problem finding an audience and urged us to take it on. We agreed to do this, once again with some trepidation, and tried to prepare ourselves for show lasting at least 2 hours and began to put the word around.
To add some some variety we invited Davie Paton to do a couple of numbers with us.
The club told us that they had, had a fantastic response for tickets and we had also had many requests for tickets, the show was sold out very quickly.
On the day of the show we were delighted to watch as the club slowly filled with people and when the time came to start after a short Introduction we kicked off what was to become a regular and lasting event which continues to this day, it was a very enjoyable quite moving experience.
