About this memory

1966 – until it was burned down as shown above.

Jim – The Top Storey was exactly that, halfway down Leith Street across from the road from the Aabano the Terraced Building sat above a row of Retail Stores i.e Burton’s & John Colliers Tailors and more on the ground floor street level.

The Dance Club was run by the Craig Brothers, Taxi Drivers by day, but “Entrepeneurs” by night.

Jim & David – It was a larger space than the Aabano but on most nights it would be full holding around 250 people. It attracted all of the local Bands, there were acts from Liverpool such as the Warriors and an extensive range of Star Acts, including the Moody Blues albeit before they went global. Jimmy James and The Vagabonds were a Club Favourite. I also remember a very nervous Bill J. Kramer in the Doorway of the Snooker Hall which was below the Dancehall and provided the Changing facilities puffing on a cigarette.

David – THE HIPPLE PEOPLE were regulars there after our stint in the Aabano Club.

Jim – In May 1964 we supported Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas. The Hall had no natural light and the Stage was a couple of Billiard Tables shoved together in one corner, the atmosphere was superb, all on one level packed with bodies all dancing in front of you, very similiar to the “Raves” you see on the news.

David – A very early version of the Bay City Rollers supported us one night under the name of Motown Stompers but unfortunately they had to stomp off as they went down badly.
