About this memory

1963 – We started to rehearse in 1963 with the help of a Reel to Reel Recorder and very basic equipment at West Pilton Primary School where David’s Dad was the Janitor.

Raymond – Before then I hadn’t played any music and I don’t think the rest of us had either apart from Davy but I could be wrong. I had no experience of drumming and really can’t remember how I became the drummer, so I had a hard time convincing my parents to sign the Hire Purchase Agreement for the drum kit I couldn’t play. Anyway, I got them, now I had to learn to play them. I learned by copying and listening to other bands and obviously records which I listened to in my house.

Jim – David’s Dad also helped us as a “Roadie” for our first few gigs, it helped that he had a car. Sandy’s brother David also helped initially to get some gigs.

David is pictured holding his O’Level School Certificate which was awarded in his 4th Year.

Raymond – A few months into my 5th Year I left School to start a Printing Apprenticeship in Waddies which would be about Oct/Nov 1963. I think we had started the Band by that time and decided on who was to play what.
