Aircraft accident near Sighthill on 11th September 1956

About this memory

On the 11th September 1956 Peter Mitchell was piloting a Gloucester Meteor V8 practising for the Battle of Britain Celebrations later that week.
While coming out of a Loop the Loop manoeuvre, the aircraft crashed close to its RAF Turnhouse base and the pilot was killed.
The crash was witnessed by Jack Wardell who was playing football with the Murrayburn team on the Sighthill playing fields beside the old Calder Road.

Thanks to Jack Wardell for the information
