Young Member Of The 1930 Amateur Swimming Club Standing Alongside His Medals And Trophies 1972
About this memory
Stuart Forbes.
The ASC competed mostly in East of Scotland and inter-club competitions. The trophies and cups on the table were awarded by the ASC 1930 – the trophies were presented to the winners each year, the cups were for the winners to keep. The medals in the cabinet are Scottish Swimming Championship medals, Scottish Schools medals and a couple of open competition medals. The cloth badges laying flat are East of Scotland “medals”. The bronze badge sitting near the front of the table Stuart won in a UK-wide competition. The pennants were for competing in the finals of the Scottish Championships.
The photograph was displayed in the trophy cabinet at the entrance to Leith Victoria Baths.
The trophies and medals were engraved by Elmslie’s Engravers who had a shop at the top of Leith Walk.
The photograph was taken by a local photographer, Mr Strang, who had a studio set up in his home.
