1975
City Of Edinburgh Bye-Law Regulations for Sweeping And Washing The Common Close And Stairs 1970s

About this memory

This notice does not specify but it most commonly referred to the common close and stairs. Tenement stair cleaning was a responsibility taken in turn by each household within the tenement. Once swept and washed, the card was passed on to the next in turn, usually by hanging the notice on the next-in-line’s front door knob.
