The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh moved from Lauriston Place to Little France between 2002 and 2003. A key date in the closing of its Lauriston Place site was the closure of A & E. This was during the early hours of 1st May 2003, formally at 2am. At that time a phone was placed outside the now-closed A & E providing a phone link to A & E at Little France. A notice was also placed stating that this A & E was closed.
By this stage most departments had already moved to the new Little France hospital. Later that day, 1st May, Coronary Care Unit moved; a few beds at the CCU at Little France had already opened and the patients remaining at Lauriston Place were moved to Little France and then CCU closed.
It was not long before all clinical departments had moved.
