Couple On Sofa Celebrating Their Pearl Wedding Anniversary 1962
1962

About this memory
Charlie and Annie (née Lindsay) Turner on their 30th wedding anniversary.
Charlie Turner (1901 -1973) was a barber at 28 High Street, Portobello, from the 1920s until 1970 (at that time, he was the longest sole trader in Portobello).
His wife Annie – who as a young woman had been goalkeeper for Portobello Thistle Ladies Football Team – joined him as a hairdresser in the shop in the 1950s.
Their only child died at the age of fourteen in 1945.
The wooden bench outside Portobello police station is in their memory.
