Crew Mates Of HMS Fearless c.1918
1918

About this memory
Ernest Mobbs (back row, far right).
“My father stands to attention on the backrow (end right), lanyard sparkling white, with bosun’s whistle. What the seaman (sitting middle, front row) is holding has very faint writing on it, which to me is someone’s name, probably chalked on, which I take had been one of their watch who had been killed in action, hence the tribute and a picture from them all that they miss him, to be sent to relatives. They may have not long before given him a burial at sea.” – Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)
Photograph from collection of Ernest Mobbs who served in both World Wars.
