Free School Milk 1955

Free School Milk 1955

About this memory

Every pupil was given a small 1/3pint of milk every day.
Delivered in crates to each class, these were given out complete with wax paper straws by different pupils each day.
During Winter they would be placed next to the stove to thaw out, resulting in many a scalded mouth.
In Summer they went sour in hot weather, which was not an excuse not to have to drink it.
The foil tops were collected in bags and sent off to raise money for Charities.
