German Family Sitting Round Table c.1928

German Family Sitting Round Table c.1928

About this memory

Barbara Lynen (far right) with family.

Barbara was the wife of Willie Haswell. They met in Germany, probably somewhere in North-Rhine Westphalia (Barbara was born in 1915 in Haaren, a town just north to the city of Aachen) while Willie was stationed there with the RAF after the war. Her surname at the time was Müllejans, which she had kept after the death of her first husband, presumably during the war. Barbara obtained a visa to travel to Britain in early 1949, and they were married later that year in Edinburgh.
