Grandmother Holding Her Granddaughter On Her Christening Day 1939
1939

About this memory
“Granny Janet holding me in Oct 1939, christening day, my father, Neil, died a month later leaving [my mother] Susan a widow, she went back to teaching. It was just after the outbreak of war, and the first air raid, my grandfather was walking to the shop when the German planes went over.
My poor mother and father, what a horrendous time. He had to be invalided home from Port Said. They were married in 1937 by Rev T Ratcliffe Barnett, who christened me and, four weeks later, took Neil’s funeral. My mother remarried in 1944 [1941?], which is how I got the best brother I could have had.” – Christine Muir (née Tulloch) [2021]
