Grandmother Sitting With Granddaughter In Sitting Room c.1961

Grandmother Sitting With Granddaughter In Sitting Room c.1961

About this memory

Elizabeth Mobbs with her granddaughter Laura Muir.

“The visits to home were not very often but it was a chance for parents to see first child. The door in the background led onto what was classed as a scullery, two steps led into it – cooker, sink, benches, etc, and cupboards. Another six steps led to the top back door, other side of that was stone steps, fifteen leading to back yard – coal house beneath steps and an outside toilet. Another door on outside wall led to cobbled back lane.

“The chair sat on in photo was one of a suite – popular at the time. The mirror above had been there since I was a child.” – Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)
