“The visits to home were not very often but it was a chance for parents to see first child. The door in the background led onto what was classed as a scullery, two steps led into it – cooker, sink, benches, etc, and cupboards. Another six steps led to the top back door, other side of that was stone steps, fifteen leading to back yard – coal house beneath steps and an outside toilet. Another door on outside wall led to cobbled back lane.
