Home Guard Members, early 1940s

Home Guard Members, early 1940s

About this memory

Robert Williamson (left).

Robert Williamson served in the Home Guard for the duration of the war – being a butcher he was exempt from military service. The group’s headquarters were at the rugby ground at Murrayfield. The family joke was that he guarded Corstorphine Hill from the Roseburn Bar!
