About this memory
When I first moved to Edinburgh I lived in an old tenement flat in front of these, ‘The Banana Flats’. Coming from a smaller city I rejoiced in the cosmopolitan vibrancy of Edinburgh. In Leith, the juxtaposition of the old and the new, the Chinese supermarkets, African restaurant, and Polish delis all felt aspirational but sincere. From the Banana Flats colorful washing addressed me from on high, whilst multiple interesting beats conveyed exotic stories.
