About this memory

“THE EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS, SATURDAY, MAY 11th 1918

SHAW – Killed in action on the 13th April.

Pte John Shaw (45093), Highland
Light Infantry, aged 22 years, beloved husband of MARGARET FINLAY, 16 Bedford Street, Stockbridge.

Oft I sit in sorrow and woe
There comes a dream of dear long ago;
And unknown to the world you stand by my side
And whisper “Dear wife death cannot divide”;
Time and distance cannot change me,
Absence makes you feel so dear;
When memory brings the past before me
“Tis then I wish your voice to hear”
Sleep on dear Daddy and take thy rest”
