John R Linton Grocery Store At No.1 Glenogle Road 1955
1955

About this memory
“[My] father purchased the shop in 1940. [It] previously traded as the Elmslie (Grocery) Store. [My father] traded for approximately 28 years under ‘John R Linton’. [We] stayed at Newington and travelled daily to Glenogle Road. [The] shop opened from 8.30am and closed sometimes as late as 10.00pm. We were trading as licensed grocers and had to comfrom to opening hours.
“I drove the car parked outside the shop. I learned to drive at a school near Rutland Street in the early 50s. There were very few lady drivers at that time. The upper storey house was let.” – Mabel Linton
