(L-R) – Alex Melrose (father), Robert, Marjorie, Stanley.

Alex Melrose was a Sergeant in the Local Defence Volunteers (the Home Guard). Alex’s medal ribbons are for his service in the First World War, including the Military Medal for action in the Dardanelles.

Marjorie Melrose joined the WAAFs (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) in 1943.

Stanley Melrose joined the Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Team in 1940.
