Members Of The Milton Amateur Wrestling Club At Abbeyhill 1962

About this memory

Far left – Harry Redpath (secretary) and Peter McKenzie (uncle of George MacKenzie).

Jimmy Turnbull (light-coloured leotard with lion rampant) and George McKenzie (Scotland tracksuit top) were two of five wrestlers provided by the club for the 1958 Empire Games in Cardiff.

“[The club facilities included] a wrestling mat, ASCOT gas water heater for shower, ‘free’ weights, NO heating and a lot of dedication.

“I’m on my back – my usual wrestling position – with Ronnie McKenzie showing the hold, and George McKenzie (no relation) explaining the hold.” – Jim Dignall [2005]

Did you know Alexander (Sandy) Munro? We are trying to get some information on him and understood he was the original owner of Milton Street Wrestling Club.
