About this memory

which took us along the “Fossway”, an old Roman Road south of Birmingham.

Michael, Roberts friend was in the back of the car, Robert was driving and I was in the passenger seat.

It was pouring with rain and when we came to cross a main road, Robert did not see a car approaching. The car hit us at high speed and sent us skidding down the road and into a farmyard duck pond.

Both Robert and I were knocked unconscious and the farmer called for an ambulance which took us to Tamworth Hospital where they contacted our Mother and Father, they were told that we had been killed in a car accident. They came to the hospital to find us unconscious but alive.

Robert had a broken arm and a fractured skull , and I had a fracture to the side of my head and a large cut on my forehead. Michael was unhurt, but his car was not so good. Robert was home in 3 days and I was a little later. We both recovered. (1950)
