Old Esso Garage on the Calder Road

Old Esso Garage on the Calder Road

About this memory

The large white building in the picture. Built in the 1930s in Art Deco style.
Situated just past the top of Sighthill View going towards Sighthill. Used to sell Dinky model cars displayed in the window. Remember getting one when I had a tooth out across the road at the Health Centre. Prior to it being built a green van used to park there selling Chips The garage has now been demolished and I believe the space is now the used by a Car Hire firm. (A close up view is to be found elsewhere on the Internet)

On the other side of the road are the Doctors House in the trees and the Sighthill Inn at the top of Sighthill View.

Many thanks to A. Mann for permission to use the photograph.

Thanks to Moira Greig and others for the memories.
