William Haswell and Barbara Müllejans (previously Lynen).

Willie was called up in July 1941, trained and was stationed in England, before being deployed to Europe. He served in the RAF Regiment, tasked primarily with building and maintaining airstrips. He met Barbara when stationed in North-Rhine Westphalia and they both fell quickly in love.

Willie was born and brought up in the Canongate. Later, in 1949, Barbara obtained a visa to travel to Britain, and in that year they were married in Edinburgh. They lived at no.5 Canongate.
