Sighthill Cycle Track in the 1960s

Sighthill Cycle Track in the 1960s

About this memory

Taken during a match between the Sighthill Hammers CSC and Leicester Monarchs in the 1960s with Tam Daly in the lead and John Tait on the outside.

Built on the present site of St. John Ogilvie Catholic Church car park on Sighthill Drive.

The building in the background was the Scout Hut.

The team was successful in winning the Edinburgh League every year from 1963 to 1967and again in 1969.
They were National Champions in 1966.

The team moved to a new track in 1967 at Whinhill Park but was disbanded in 1970.

There was another track on the old Calder Road next to the Sighthill Inn.

Thanks to Don Moir and others for photo and details.
