Smartly Dressed Soldier In Civvies On Leave With His Dog, late 1920s

About this memory

John Skene.

“This is my father on leave. He came home and brought his dog with him. It usually stayed at the barracks. He loved his animals. He also loved his white horse. He looked really handsome. My mother had a photo of him on his horse in full uniform and bearskin.

“When he brought the dog into the house my mother went daft. When she was young, dogs were kept in kennels outside and she wasn’t used to animals in the house.” – Helen Ewing (née Skene) [2003]
