St Cutbert’s horses used in X-Ray campaign

1959
St Cutbert's horses used in X-Ray campaign

About this memory

In order to prevent the spread of Tuberculosis and raise awareness of the disease, a public campaign was mounted in late 1950s Edinburgh to encourage folk to have an X-Ray. An Edinburgh Horse Bus pulled by two Percheron horses looked after by the St Cuthbert’s Association, can be seen parading the High Street. Percherons were used for any work under saddle in agriculture, hauling heavy loads and pulling stagecoaches. Did you have an X-ray after seeing this campaign?
