Studio Portrait Of Two Sisters c.1916

Studio Portrait Of Two Sisters c.1916

About this memory

Susan and Jean Young.

“Mum and [her] sister Jean. Jean was born in 1915. My mum, Susan Young, was born in 1906. Mum was a premature baby, and underweight, and was always small, but trained as a teacher and could easily control a class of 48!

“Granny Janet Young had a dairy, and my Granda, William, was a master saddler and had the saddlery at 90a Constitution Street, it’s now an architect’s practice and beautifully restored.

“[The studio is that of] a Leith photographer, maybe J Campbell Harper, if it was already in business, as most of our photos were from there.” – Christine Muir (née Tulloch) [2021]
