“From Hugh, to my brother Jim.”
The band on the cap could either read HMS Royal Scot or HMS Royal Scotsman. The former struck a mine in the Bristol Channel in 1940, the latter operated in the Mediterranean in the North Africa and Sicily/Italy campaigns.
