About this memory

1957 – All 4 of us lived in the Dean Village. Sandy Ferris lived in Hawthorn Terrace and Charlie McCole and Pat Lee (who took the photo) lived in the Well Court.

From the Dean Village the group of us all Dean Villagers, would cycle down to Portobello, and along the East Coast passing through Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Cockenzie, Longniddry, Aberlady and onto to our destination at Gullane.

It was a long way but we were young and didn’t think anything about it. In the late afternoon we would cycle back to the Dean Village arriving in the late evening.

The round trip was a total of 44 miles, the equivalent of Cycling to Glasgow. It was quite a feat.
