Swanston Village

24th June 2018
Swanston Village

About this memory

Visiting Swanston Village, at the foot of the Pentland Hills, is like stepping back to another time and place. These white-washed thatched cottages are wholly untypical of Edinburgh. The entire village (which is technically a hamlet rather than a village) is so tranquil, with beautiful gardens which must be lovingly tended by the inhabitants. I used to visit Swanston as a child living in Oxgangs, when it would be a day’s outing in the summer holidays, and this visit brought back such happy memories of these times.
