About this memory

13th September 2016 – Having flown in from the State of Florida, USA with my Son Nickolas and his Girlfriend Amber.
We rented a flat in West Mill opposite the old Dean School and just around the corner from my old home at 2 West Mill Lane.

Being back home was like going back in time. It brought all my fond memories flooding back of my family, home, and childhood friend’s.

Seeing the Dean Village again, the Water of Leith meandering through this lovely Village, West Mill, Dean School, Well Court, Dean Path Buildings, Dean Path, Wooden bridge, Stone bridge, Telford’s Dean Bridge and the 2 Waterfalls. What a great place the Dean Village was, to be brought up in.

From 9 children, 5 of us emigrated to other parts of the world. Barbara, Ann, and Ian went to South Africa, Marjory went to Australia and I went to the USA.

The above photo was taken beside West Mill Lane, just before I was driven by Patrick McCole (formerly of 6 Well Court, Dean Village) to the Hilton Hotel, Haymarket, Edinburgh.

A Mini reunion had been arranged by for me to meet a number of former Dean Villagers, who I hadn’t seen for 50 years. I enjoyed seeing my old friends again, and reminiscing about our old times and the characters that were about at that time. The evening was just great and very nostalgic.

We toured Stirling, Fort William, and the beautiful Eileen Donan Castle in the Kyle of Lochalsh.

The Dean Village was gorgeous. Mini reunion get together terrific. Holiday brilliant.
