Thorpe Hall Primary School May Day Celebration 1947
1947

About this memory
“A May Day celebration was always held at school on a date nearest to 1st of May each year.
“Staff chose the May Queen and attendants – I don’t know what the criteria was! Dresses were used each year and the ‘train’ was a lace tablecloth. A lot of practice was needed to plait the maypole evenly. Boys usually held the ribbons. Girls wore fresh flowers in their hair.” – Jean Watt
