7th Nov 1922 – 2nd Page states “Grandfather W.L. Grant, 37 Montgomery St, Edinburgh writes in reply. He is quite willing to let John go to Canada & thanks Miss 2 for her kindness to the children”.

3rd July 1923 – “Grandfather (who is now 81 years of age) writes regarding John who arrived on Wednesday. He does not want to go to Canada so he is to fill up papers for the Navy. His wish is to be a sailor. Annie & Barbara are getting on alright thanks to the excellent training in the Homes”.

27th January 1923 ” John to Grandfather this date. He is going to join the Navy”
