Mairhi McRitchie (left).
Mairhi was a nurse with the Voluntary Service Overseas. Her patients were from very poor communities where women had very low status. The young woman in the photograph had had two stillbirths and asked if she could stay with Mairhi at the clinic for the last few weeks of her pregnancy. She did, and gave birth to a healthy daughter. She returned to her community but later came back with her baby for a visit.
