West End Silhouettes at Sundown
6th July 2018

About this memory
Walking homewards late one July evening during the glorious summer of 2018, I looked northwards from the car park in Castle Terrace to see West End buildings silhouetted against a spectacular sky. It was a great viewpoint, with the flag on St John’s Church fluttering in a gentle breeze while the setting sun was turning clouds various magnificent shades of pink and crimson. Also clearly visible was the cross on top of West Register House and the weather vane on the spire of St Cuthbert’s Church. A plane leaving the city had already left a contrail diagonally across the sky, but I was most pleased when a plane approaching Edinburgh Airport came into a perfect position for my photograph.
