Wooden Huts at Sighthill P.O.W. Camp

1954
Wooden Huts at Sighthill P.O.W. Camp

About this memory

There were two different types of accommodation.

There were 31 Wooden Huts, as shown here, and 11 metal Nissen Huts, originally erected to house the soldiers who manned the Ack-Ack guns.

This photo was taken in 1954, by which time the Camp was being used to house homeless families waiting for new permanent housing.

The children shown here would have gone to Wester Hailes Primary School on the Wester Hailes Road.

Thanks to Muriel from St Nicholas Church and Bill Lamb.
