“John Skene, my father, who was caretaker [and] David Ewing, my son, who was three years old.
“My father was retired and worked part-time in [the] nursery. He was supposed to look after [the] boiler for heating but did many extras, including mending and repairing all furniture – beds, cots, toys – and also made toys for [the] children. He made the wheelbarrow that David is pushing. When we visited he used to take David down with him to play with the children.” – Helen Ewing (née Skene) [2003]
