Central Library – a view from the top
During 2022 Central Library underwent a major £1.8m building works programme to make sure that the 130-year-old building continues to serve the citizens of Edinburgh for another 130 years.
In January, scaffolding started to be installed and was put up around the building to allow contractors to repair parts of the roof, windows, and replace any stonework which was in poor condition. Work inside the building included upgrades to lighting, the electrical system, some redecoration and renewing the fire safety equipment.
During November 2022, we gained privileged access to take a hard hat tour of the scaffold from the Cowgate floor climbing right to the top of the roof! These photos document some of the work which has been undertaken and also the amazing and unusual views from the scaffold and the roof of Central Library.
