Riddle’s Court through time

This scrapbook seeks to document the lives, events and surroundings of Riddle’s Court. A sixteenth century merchant’s house, Bailie John McMorran reconfigured the existing tenements to create a grand courtyard residence. Before the creation of Victoria Street, there would have been pleasure gardens sweeping south to the Grassmarket. As the city evolved so did Riddle’s Court hosting a library for learning and improvement in the mid 1800s and becoming a University Hall following transformation of the buildings by Patrick Geddes in the 1890s. Riddle’s Court will open as a Centre for Learning under his name in 2017.
