To be fair Judith had made it clear that she had never wanted to be married to a house, and had accordingly made no attempt to prepare herself for the role of a house wife. For the first 6 weeks I was head cook which was no great burden as I was hungry too and had been quite content with my own primitive survival cooking.
Eventually Judy went to some local evening cooking classes and we settled down into a more balanced arrangement. Bearing in mind that the ideal is a strictly personal value our flat in the Dean Village was as near to an idyllic existence as the 20th century would allow.
