2022

For Edinburgh City Council’s generosity we shall feel forever grateful.

Extract from: The Best of Health

Proof that I had been finally accepted by the Dean Village community occurred one evening when I was invited to a party at Drumsheugh Gardens ( a posh address ) but had not had time to purchase an alcoholic beverage to take with me. Nearby was Macbeth’s Bar, very unsuitable for a Duncan in distress. Trotting up Bells Brae out of the Dean Village I reached the bar just as the towel was thrown over the taps to indicate that no more drinks would be served. The barman probably took me for a policeman and refused to sell me a bottle of sherry. From the back of the bar a woman’s voice shouted:’ It’s all right, Jimmy: he’s one of us. He’s a Deanie’. The voice belonged to my neighbour.
