School Health Visitors from Hell 1955

1955

NO PHOTOGAPH CAN EVER DISPLAY THE SENSE OF ABJECT TERROR FELT WHEN………
Every so often ladies in Nurses Uniform would turn up at school and examine every pupil for Headlice (“Nits”) and Ringworm.
Hair was checked with a fine tooth Comb and notes to parents, accompanied by bottles of “Nit Shampoo”, given to affected children.
If Ringworm was found, the affected areas were painted with a bright blue liquid, called Gentian Violet. ( not easily hidden)
There were regular tests for Hearing and Eyesight as well as Dental checks which always seem to result in a visit to the surgery in the Sighthill Health Centre.
