What was my army Dad doing in Edinburgh?

August 1953

I was born at the Simpson Memorial Hospital, on July 21,1945. My brother 14 months earlier. My father was an RSM career soldier in the Royal Artillery. We moved from the area when I was six weeks old, returned on several occasions. Colinton Mains Road is significant, because I believe that was where mum lodged(?). So why was my father there? Returning at 7 years, I remember staying on CMR with some very nice people, Portobello, Cramond, Edinburgh’s Folly, The Castle, and getting the fright of my life when the one o’clock gun was fired! Waverley Station, and Princes Street. But why was my dad based there?
