About this memory

Douglas Clayton, aged 26, in a portrait sent home to his wife, Norma, in Glasgow.

“Douglas Clayton, my father, was a corporal in the Reconnaissance Corps during the Second World War. This photo was taken shortly after the liberation of Rome and to me his expression reveals something of the anguish and anger of a young man who has just come through the ordeal that was the battle of Anzio.” – Norma-Ann Coleman (née Clayton)
