Forking Hay c.1930

About this memory

Robert MacKinnon gathering hay.

Robert was known to Bill Henderson as ‘Uncle Robert’. The croft in the background was known as Craignahulish and it is where Bill was brought up.

The thatch on the crofthouse roof is corn thatch. Bill mentions that the best thatch to use was clove grass, as it lasted longer and was more waterproof. It was thatched by a man in Lochbuie.
