Harvest At East Craigs Farm c.1942

About this memory

“This photo was taken in what was then known as the High Field – it was the furthest field from the farm steading and closest to the Drum Brae.

“The farm workers in the photo are Johnnie Crooks, farm grieve, Owen Butler, first man, and on second binder is Tom Ainslie.

“Also in the photo are the Land Army girls, Mary Meechan (or McMeechan), Mabel McCaig, and Marion Marshall.

“The bungalow in the photo at the rear of the first horses is still at the top of Drum Brae.

“[My] father James was farm manager for 36 years.” – Ian Mitchell [2016]
