Man Standing Outside Family Cabin At Balerno c.1946
1946

About this memory
Robert Percy.
The hut was constructed at Balerno by Robert in the case of the family home in Edinburgh being bombed during the war. It was built on the land of the Malleny Mill which was a saw mill where bungs were cut for the drinks casks. Robert’s son David would take the offcuts from the sawmill to turn items like lampbases and even a chess set on his lathe .
The hut in the background belonged to a couple with a young daughter Margaret. It had been a single decker bus.
