Naval Destroyer At Sea 1940s

1945
Naval Destroyer At Sea 1940s

About this memory

“Ships of all different class types had been boarded by father. Only once was he transferred to a submarine. This ship looks like it was of the Second World War and likely a destroyer. Frigates, minesweepers, he had active duty on all. Seeing two world wars and round the world twice, he served the Royal Navy well.

“He ran off to sea when only thirteen years, lied about his age, how he managed that goodness knows. Sea in his blood, coming from Norfolk, with many of his side of the family in important positions in seamanship, he could not wait.” – Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)

Photograph from collection of Ernest Mobbs who served in both World Wars.
